ELAINE RYAN AND ANN SMITH JOIN ENERGETICS TECHNOLOGY CENTER
Waldorf, Md., August 18, 2008 – Elaine Ryan, former President for the College of Southern Maryland (CSM), and Ann Smith, former Dean of Educational and Technical Development for CSM, have joined Energetics Technology Center to develop and deploy an Energetics Workforce/Human Capital Development Project.
In this capacity, Dr. Ryan and Ms. Smith will be ultimately responsible for developing a workforce focused on energetics technology. Their day-to-day activities will include initial data collection and analysis, ongoing assessment of critical competencies and current and projected competency gaps, and the development of an integrated suite of K-16 outreach activities.
“The educational backgrounds and expertise of Elaine and Ann are uniquely suited to the requirements of this project,” says Bob Kavetsky, Chief Executive Officer for Energetics Technology Center.
“Now, more than ever, we are facing a critical shortage of scientists and engineers. In order to maintain our national security, a dynamic human capital plan must be in place. Elaine and Ann will help to develop this strategic plan and ensure that a necessary workforce is available to make Southern Maryland a national center for energetics technology,” says Kavetsky.
Energetics Technology Center (ETC) is a private, non-profit enterprise dedicated to growing science and technology in Southern Maryland. ETC focuses on workforce and economic development in the region and is a catalyst for energetics research and development. ETC is currently based in La Plata, Maryland.
